The Ankineedu stroke centre (ASC), First of its kind in A.P was established in 1996 and is developed into a state-of-the-art comprehensive stroke care facility managing “Brain Attack” patients to maximize their recovery. It covers all aspects of stroke management from public education, community screening, emergency evaluation, acute treatments - Medical, interventional, critical care and surgical, rehabilitation and research. It is headed by renowned Stroke Neurologist Dr.P.Vijaya M.D.,D.M with vast experience in the stroke management for the last 20yrs under her supervision ASC has achieved many mile stones like Thrombolytic therapy, Interventional stroke therapies, Stroke Neurosurgery, Multidisciplinary rehabilitation, Physician and Public education programs and clinical research with national and International presentations.
The core strength of ASC is the multidisciplinary stroke team comprising of Neurologist, Neurosurgeon, Neuroradiologist, Interventional radiologist, Interventional Cardiologist, Emergency Physician, Critical care specialist along with paramedical staff including trained nurses, CT, MRI lab technicians, Cath lab technicians, rehabilitation team with physiotherapists, Speech therapist, Dietician, Stroke coordinator all available 24/7.

Stroke rehabilitation - Starting from Day 1 from stroke unit comprehensive stroke rehabilitation services are provided by physiotherapists, Dietician and Speech therapist. After discharge local patients are provided by extended home based therapy.
One of the biggest stroke registries average 1000 patients per year comprising of ischemic strokes (Lacunar syndromes, Cardio embolic strokes, Intra cranial Large vessel diseases, carotid disease, Cortical sinus venous thrombosis) , Hemorrhagic strokes like SAH, ICH, AVM bleed. Special registries are maintained for IVT, LIAT, CVT and Cerebellar strokes.
There are in house Siemens 6 slice spiral CT, Hitachi whole body MRI scan, Color Doppler studies, Biochemistry and hematology, Neuroradiology available round the clock for speedy evaluation of acute stroke patients. The door to CT time is 10 minutes.

This 45 yr old business man, known diabetic and underwent bypass surgery 6yrs back, reading news paper at 8.30am in lying position was unable to hold the news paper with his left hand, he got up and while walking he noticed that his left arm and left leg was felt heaviness and numbness with slurred speech. He rushed to our Ankineedu Stroke Unit at 09.10 am, seen by Neurophysician Dr.P.Vijaya diagnosed paralysis stroke, immediately send to CT brain and shifted to Intensive care. As he brought to hospital within 3 hours, considered for Intra Venous
Thrombolytic therapy and administered the drug rt-PA. Immediately after 1 hr patient started improving. At the time of discharge patient completely recovered and walked without support.
Lalitha Hospital with ASC services is recognized by the NAT board for the DNB (Super speciality) neurology training after MD general medicine.
ASC is a part of many prestigious International clinical trials.
ASC is one of the first stroke centers in India to pioneer World stroke Day activities. Starting from 2005, every year many stroke awareness programs are conducted involving TV, Electronic media and Print media. For the innovative activities ASC also received the prestigious World stroke Day - 2009 award in a World wide competition from World stroke Organization.
